Book #21: The Catcher in the Rye

The Catcher in the Rye

by J. D. Salinger

The Catcher in the Rye documents the angst and alienation of teenager Holden Caulfield. After being kicked out of his prep school, Caulfield wonders from place to place and from conversation to conversation, looking for something, anything. Filled with controversy, Salinger’s book was frequently banned from and challenged in schools throughout America.

I expected this fairly modern book to be available for download as an ebook. I did find a notice at the publisher’s UK web site stating that the book was due for imminent electronic release, but that update was over a year old and I couldn’t be sure that the release would occur during the life of the project. So I bought a physical copy, the Little, Brown, and Company’s mass market paperback edition. It’s 214 pages in length and has that new Catcher in the Rye smell.
