by A. S. Byatt
Possession is one of the few books in The Well-Read Man Project that was written during my lifetime. Yet much of the book focuses on a bygone time. Byatt’s story examines the relationship between two Victorian-era poets from the point of view of modern researchers. Her book uses a variety of literary styles, including standard prose, letters, and journal entries. Its genre placement is just as varied, touching on historical, romantic, and satirical elements.
Despite being a relatively new book by an established author, Possession is not available for sale in electronic form. I purchased a paperback copy of the book for the project. It is 555 pages long.
